Support Through the Workers Compensation Scheme

Psychological Support at Elevated Minds Psychology

If you’ve experienced a psychological or physical injury at work, you may be eligible for support under the Workers Compensation Scheme. At Elevated Minds Psychology, we provide evidence-based psychological services to help you recover and regain a meaningful sense of wellbeing—both at work and in your daily life.

Understanding the Workers Compensation Scheme

The Workers Compensation Scheme is designed to provide financial and therapeutic support to workers who have been injured in the course of their employment. This includes both physical injuries and psychological injuries, such as those resulting from:

  • Work-related stress or burnout

  • Exposure to traumatic events

  • Workplace bullying or harassment

  • Chronic pain and injury adjustment

  • Secondary psychological distress following a physical injury

The Role of Psychological Intervention

Psychological injuries can significantly impact your mood, energy, motivation, relationships, and capacity to work. Our interventions aim to address:

  • Emotional distress: such as anxiety, depression, trauma reactions, or anger

  • Cognitive difficulties: including poor concentration, memory issues, or decision-making challenges

  • Behavioural patterns: like avoidance, withdrawal, or decreased self-care

  • Work-related confidence and functioning

Using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), our psychologists help clients build insight, develop practical coping strategies, and foster emotional resilience.

Why Early Intervention Matters

Early psychological intervention is one of the most effective ways to support recovery from workplace injury. Research consistently shows that timely support can:

  • Reduce the severity and duration of symptoms

  • Prevent psychological injuries from becoming chronic

  • Maintain your connection with the workplace, which is protective for mental health

  • Improve return-to-work outcomes, even while managing ongoing symptoms

Our goal is to support a safe and sustainable return to work. Work plays a critical role in providing routine, social connection, purpose, and financial independence. We work collaboratively with you and your treating team to develop realistic and supportive return-to-work goals, in line with your mental health recovery.

How We Work With You Under the Scheme

  • We liaise with your GP and case manager to ensure your psychological support is approved and funded.

  • We conduct a thorough psychological assessment to understand your specific needs.

  • We develop a treatment plan tailored to your injury, symptoms, goals, and return-to-work needs.

  • We collaborate with rehabilitation providers and employers, when appropriate, to ensure workplace adjustments support your recovery.

Through this scheme, you may be entitled to:

  • Funded psychological therapy sessions

  • Medical treatment and support services

  • Assistance with returning to work, including rehabilitation planning

  • Income support during periods you are unfit for work
